The UEFA Europa Conference League was added as a third annual event for men’s football clubs in the UEFA competition in the 2021/22 season. On Thursday nights, it coincides with the UEFA Europa League. More than 170 different teams, including representatives from every UEFA association and every club that has made it thus far in the Champions League or Europa League, will compete during the course of the season.
The Going Down of the Game
There are sixteen teams total, with four teams in each of the eight groups, followed by a knockout round play-off, the round of 16, the quarterfinals, the semifinals, and the final. The top eight teams from each group will go through to the round of 16. The eight clubs who finished in second place in their groups and the third-placed teams from the Europa League groups will compete in a knockout round of play-offs before the round of 16. This was a part of the uefa conference league. Three preliminary rounds and a play-in round precede the group stage. Teams advancing through the Champions League and Europa League champions path will follow different paths through these stages. Teams do not advance directly to the group stage.
When do Europa League Conference matches Happen?
The Europa Conference League’s games are held on Thursdays, the same day as the Europa League’s, although the league’s championship game is held a week after the Europa League’s. The two competitions’ matches are split between 18:45 CET (instead of 18:55 CET) and 21:00 CET, which should be a fairly balanced split.
Reasons for Formation
It is expected that at least 34 UEFA national associations will have teams participate in the group stage of at least one of the events under the new UEFA club competitions structure beginning in the 2021/22 season. There are at least 14 national champions participating in the Champions League’s group stage. Between eight and eleven national champions compete in the Europa League’s group stage. There are nine to twelve national champions playing in the Europa Conference League’s group stage. The quotas for each member organization have been kept at their former levels, and all three club events are available to all members.
Conclusion
The creation of the uefa conference league has not had any noticeable impact on the Champions League. There used to be 48 teams in the Europa League, but now there are only 32. Each club is in one of eight groups of four. The Europa League’s top eight clubs from each group will proceed to the knockout round. In the Europa League, there are additional elimination round play-offs before the round of 16. Eight clubs from the Europa League and eight clubs from the Champions League that placed second and third in their respective groups will compete in the play-offs.
